It is easy to criticise an author, but it is difficult to appreciate him.–VAUVENARGUES.

Is it really difficult to appreciate an author?  If I ….

purchase the author’s book in hardcover

purchase the author’s book in paperback

purchase the author’s audio book

purchase the download on Kindle

write a book review on Amazon

link to the author’s book on Amazon on my website

write a commentary on my blog

Quote the author and book on Twitter

Recommend it to all my Facebook connections via Facebook applications

Gee, I think I have shown my appreciation.

Why can’t we take care of our own?

The Daily Watchdog

WELFARE: Rising incomes in the 1990s cut the number of U.S. families eligible for government cash assistance. However, the number of participants fell even more sharply from 1995 to 2005, apparently due to restrictions imposed by welfare reform legislation in 1996, including work requirements and time limits. Increased participation by eligible families would decrease the rate of “extreme poverty” but would not lift many above the poverty line (Government Accountability Office). Also see a related hearing by the House Ways and Means Committee’s Subcommittee on Income Security and Family Support.

“There are no office hours for champions.”
College Football Coach and Artist, Paul Dietzel

Perhaps this is the problem.  Could it be that because “champions” do not set reasonable boundaries society ends up with wrecks like Dennis Rodman?  If the media respected Tiger Woods’ “office hours” his private life would have been just that… PRIVATE.

In my humble opinion, “champions” need office hours.

“Honest criticism is the highest praise.” An Unknown Author

leave a comment »

Hmm…really? According to Dictionary.com

Criticism:  “the act of passing judgment as to the merits of anything”

When someone is passing judgment aren’t they assuming they know more than you?  Therefore, isn’t criticism a form of arrogance?  Criticism comes from the critic’s experience and life view.  If those are different than yours or beyond a mainstream world view then the criticism is hardly praise.

Just my outrageous opinion.  If “honest criticism is the highest praise” gets you through the day, I am not going to argue with you. After all, who am I to judge?

BS Top - Bussell Dita Von Teese

Recently, she had a run-in with a photographer at an airport who reportedly called her a “bitch” to get a photo opp. “When that was happening to me, I realized this is how they get Kanye West or Sean Penn or somebody beating someone down and just snapping. I thought, This is a test for me, I have to maintain my elegance because all they’re gonna see is the pictures of me being upset.” (The photographer has since “nicely and kindly and wholeheartedly” apologized, in her words.) “I do a lot of performances and if something breaks or technically goes wrong, what am I gonna do, get mad and storm off? It’s about how you deal with the crisis. People respect you more for dealing with things in an elegant manner instead of having a fit.”

Opening day for Baltimore Orioles

with 3 comments

baseball1

All I ever hear is how the economy sucks. The media is all over how many people are unemployed or losing jobs. So, let me ask you this…

Who can afford to go to opening day for the Baltimore Orioles?

Professional sporting events have become a luxury entertainment. Add it up. Ticket, refreshments and a souvenir and you can kiss that college savings good bye.

Why would you want to go to opening day for the Baltimore Orioles?

Good gracious those professional athletes make millions of dollars a year. In fact, a professional athlete will make more in one year than I will make in a life time. When we are in a good economy, I can be a spectator and dream about being as rich as them too some day. In a poor economy that dream is shattered.

How can you spend money on opening day for the Baltimore Orioles when there are so many charities that need your support?

Every time you buy a ticket to a professional sporting event you are making the rich richer. Dontcha think professional athletes should have to play without being paid? I think pro athletes should have to get a real job and play sports as a hobby… in their free time. Then we would all have a true hero to cheer for.

You Are Accepting and Open

When You Are At Your Best or in a Social Setting:

You are philosophical and opinionated. You have quite a few pet causes, and you’re always adopting a new one.
People see you as clever and smart. You now a lot, and you love to talk about a variety of subjects.

When You Are Comfortable:

You are enthusiastic and flexible. You are open-minded. You prefer to learn from others… not judge them.
People see you as kind and cooperative. You are very supportive when friends are down on their luck.

What Do Your Initials Say About You?
