What I am reading: Get Clients Now by C.J. Hayden

Why I am reading: To make the most of my marketing

Which quote: “Just as Samuel T. Coleridge’s expression ‘the willing suspension of disbelief’ can be the key to enjoying a novel or ply, you can temporarily allow yourself to believe fully in your Special Permission.”

How this quote adjusted my thinking:

This is where it takes a leap of faith. If you are in a rut and not getting the results you want then you have to take a risk. You have to suspend your disbeliefs. Once you do, you will move out of your rut.

Sometimes It Takes Focus

What I am reading: Get Clients Now by C.J. Hayden

Why I am reading: To make the most of my marketing

Which quote: “We have so many options as to how we spend our leisure time that we jump from one activity to another, never spending any significant amount of time doing the one thing which would actually bring us more enjoyment.  Keep the main thing the main thing and while you’re at work, your work is the main thing.  When you’re at home, family is the main thing.” by Zig Ziglar http://www.ziglar.com

How this quote adjusted my thinking:

I have been letting this quote resonate with me.  I have moved through my life for several days just letting this quote simmer.  It just makes so much sense.  I am not sure I can articulate the impact this quote can have.  When you focus on one thing you get results.  If you are trying to multi task or divide your focus your results are delayed or go unachieved.

What I am reading: Make Your Contacts Count (Networking Know-How For Business and Career Success) by Anne Baber and Lynne Waymon

Where in the book: page 50

Why I am reading: Learning how to network. Cause believe me, I have no CLUE!

Which quote: “Whatever the size of your networking effort, you’ll come to many ChoicePoints along the way. These are opportunities to make strategic decisions about what you will say or do.”

How this quote adjusted my thinking:

Before reading this book, I never had a strategic plan. I did not know I had networking tools. The only preparation was done in the travel time to the networking event. While at the event, I spent a lot of time observing. Other networkers lead the way of discussion and the offering of information.

In this chapter, I look forward to developing my strategic plan.

Why I am reading: To make the most of my marketing

Which quote: “Do yourself a huge favor and choose only those action items that you can actually see yourself doing.  Its OK to start right where you are.” by Joan Friedlander  http://www.lifeworkpartners.com

How this quote adjusted my thinking:

This quote had a very freeing effect on me.  So many times when I am not where I think I should be in achieving my goals I am quick to look at all the things I am not doing.  In my way of thinking, if I have two clients and I want two more then I must have to do some cold calling since I do not cold call now.  I do not like to cold call and it is not a skill I wish to acquire.  After reading this quote, I gave myself permission to let that notion go.  I learned to embrace the skills I have and implement the action items I am good at doing.

Which quote: “Never underestimate the power of networking to enhance your life, both professionally and personally.”

How this quote adjusted my thinking:

I think this is where I have faltered. I honestly thought networking was a one shot deal. I thought it was an activity I signed up for. Attend the activity, smile, state your name, exchange business cards and call it a day. In that perspective, networking is quite the chore.

My perspective of networking is changing. I like the idea of networking being ongoing. I am learning a new vocabulary. I am getting a new framework for my behavior. I feel more professional. I feel more confident.

Which quote: “It doesn’t matter so much what you choose as it does that you choose.”

How this quote adjusted my thinking:

I cannot tell you how many people I have met that fail to do this.  They get so hung up on their excuses that they never make a decision.  Failing to make a choice stalls your success.

Why I am reading: Learning how to network. Cause believe me, I have no CLUE!

Which quote: “Develop  Your Relationships-Six Stages- Allies= People who are experts on you, your business, your career, your needs, your aspirations and your vision.”

How this quote adjusted my thinking:

Now I know I am too early in my business to have established these relationships.  While examining the relationships I do have established, I realize I am not an ally for anyone-yet. Having this book guide me gives me the road map I need to keep my networking as well as my business on track.

In these times it is so overwhelming to sift through all the business advice and opportunities.  It is so easy to get side tracked and derailed from your business objectives or even your personal objectives.  I like how this book gives me the vocabulary and a framework to keep focused.

Why I am reading: To make the most of my marketing

Which quote: “The starting point of all achievement is desire.” by Napoleon Hill

How this quote adjusted my thinking:

This ties in with passion.  The latest buzz is “do what you are passionate about.”  Without passion, without desire you are not going to get the results you want.  Do you want more clients?  Then you have to have desire to work toward that goal with passion.
