Why I am reading: To make the most of my marketing
Which quote: “So instead of worrying that you should do more marketing, you simply scratch each item off your list and plan for the next.” by John Jantsch, www.ducttapemarketing.com
How this quote adjusted my thinking:
There were times I would think I need to do more marketing. “Marketing” was an all encompassing term. It represented all the “things” I should be doing but am not doing. Now I know there is a method.
The launch of my networking improvement journey
After giving this a lot of thought, I decided to take you on my journey to improve my networking skills. I am new to the virtual assistant profession. I have plenty of business experience. This is my first time being a business owner. On the various association discussion boards the most consistent advice seasoned virtual assistants give the newer virtual assistants is network, network, network. I have a vague idea of what “networking” means. However, I lack the technique and skill to actually network.
Welcome to the launch of my networking improvement journey.
Several months ago Lynne Waymon was the presenter at an online seminar I attended. She is so knowledgeable. Her examples, her way of speaking, her demeanor were inspirational. She opened my eyes to the truth about networking. Immediately I bought her book Make Your Contacts Count.![]()
Everyone can afford to brush up on their networking skills.
Grab your copy and read along. You can watch me stumble, blunder and succeed as I learn how to network. Cause let me tell you – I have no CLUE what I am doing!!!
Really, what is marketing?

Why I am reading: To make the most of my marketing
Which quote: “Marketing is telling people what you do over and over.”
How this quote adjusted my thinking:
This quote made me stop and think because I thought marketing was creating a presence. Once the presence was created, the marketing was over. Now I know creating a presence is one element of marketing. Effective marketing is repeatedly letting people know about my services.
Gave Cafe.com another try
Ever hopeful I went back to Cafe.com again. This time I clicked on the single player games. To my delight I was able to play a couple of games.
The games I chose looked to be interesting from the menu. However were a little rudimentary in play. It is interesting what you get accustomed to using as a gamer that a developer might not remember. Like the quit key. Or the I am bored and want to return to the main menu so I can choose another game button.
Some of the games looked like knock off renditions of Playfirst Games. I am a frequent Playfirst gamer. WOW..if Playfirst added the interactive element NOW that would be gamer heaven!![]()
Cafe.com
I was reading techcrunch for a client of mine. I saw a post for how online games are updating themselves. The post mentioned Cafe.com. Considering I sit smack dab in the middle of their demographics I was beside myself eager to give it a try.
Only it is still in beta. Thanks to techcruch I was able to use an invitation. Only Cafe.com didn’t like my browser. I have about three browsers I use so switching didn’t bother me. Only the AutoUpdater didn’t like my operating system. Well phooey. I only run one operating system. I consider myself somewhat technically savvy but I do have my limitations.
I am not dismayed. I have submitted my support ticket. I am waiting for a reply or update or os compatibility or whatever game developers do to make the world right. I have that feeling I get when it is December 1. You can see the presents in the window but you know you can’t have them until (insert December holiday of your choice) 🙂![]()
Here is how I made Fish w/lemon
RECIPE: LEMONY BAKED FISH
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
INGREDIENTS:
1lb. fish fillets of your choice
1/4 cup chicken broth
4-6 lemon slices
20 sprays of immitation butter spray
1/8 tsp. pepper
1 tbsp. dried parsley
DIRECTIONS:
Preheat oven to 450 degrees. Arrange fish in a 9×13″ baking
dish. Top with remaining ingredients. Bake fish, uncovered,
for 10 minutes per inch of thickness, or until fish flakes
easily with a fork.
(from gophercentral)
The recipe above is quite delicious. I have my own way of making it.
*Your saute or fry pan
*Add just enough water to cover bottom of pan
*Cut fresh lemon in half and squeeze some of the juice into the water; or use lemon juice from the bottle about 1/8 of teaspoon
*Add frozen or fresh fillets of your choice (my favorites are sole and tilapia)
* Over medium heat, let frozen fish defrost; let fresh fish reach the half cooked point
*Sprinkle some additional lemon on top of fish
*Add two tablespoons of butter substitute (I use “I can’t believe it’s not butter”)
*By the time the butter melts over the fish, your fish is cooked through and ready to serve.
*Sprinkle your favorite spice on top and serve (my favorite spice is curry powder)
*Serve with a side of asparagus cooked exactly the same way. very delicious.![]()
Louis Vuitton sending a mixed message?
What shoes are to some women, handbags are to me. Handbags offer me the ability to micro organize myself. Organization is one of those skills that comes naturally to me so handbags are appealing.
I was perusing Technorati when I saw a link to The Bag Snob. Now, I do not have to tell you I could not click fast enough. To my delight, The Bag Snob turned out to be a pretty cool site.
Here is an image that caught my attention. It is Keith Richards posing for Louis Vuitton. Huh? Ok, I know I am an average woman. I know there is no way in this world Louis Vuitton wants us common folk to be caught dead with their high hoity toity bags. However, how can you chose Keith Richards?
Do they want potential purchasers to say “I want the bag that is older than dirt”? or how about, “I’ll take the stodgiest bag you have. Yes. The Louis Vuitton.”
I guess Louis Vuitton was not going for the trendy shopper this season.![]()
Oh and let me say this..
i-Lighted Content Ok so I made a comment on Chris Brogan’s blog post Shuffling Ads Around. Then of course I thought too much about it. I am furious that we the public let cable tv, satelite tv, tivo, etc charge us for their service and subject us to advertising. You know what? If you want to subject me to advertising, then the FCC should make it illegal for you to charge me a subscrition fee. You want to charge me a subscription fee, then the FCC should make it illegal for you to show advertisements. Appears rather straight forward to me. However, I think too much.![]()
Was Osama Bin Laden A CIA agent?
“Was Bin Laden A CIA Agent?
Most of the world believes Bin Laden was a CIA agent. He was first funded in the 80s by the CIA. There is also no record of him using the term, ‘Al Qaida’, which means ‘the toilet’ until after 9-11.” from http://www.evtv1.com/player.aspx?itemnum=10792
Whether this is fact or fabrication I do not know. However, I like challenging myself to think outside the box. I like it when people challenge mainstream perceptions shaped by the media.
